Arsenal legend Ray Parlour: This is why Arsene Wenger would be perfect for England


 
RAY PARLOUR believes it would be a “great coup” for England if they could prise Arsene Wenger away from Arsenal.
 
Wenger has been linked with the vacant England manager’s role and Starsport understands he is the FA’s first choice to replace Roy Hodgson.
 
 Gareth Southgate turned down the chance to take the job on a permanent or interim basis last week.
 
 The FA are willing to wait for Wenger’s current Arsenal deal to run out, which will be at the end of next season.
 
 Speaking to the Telegraph, Gunners legend Parlour believes it would be a great appointment, but admits it is unlikely to happen.
 
 “If they can get him, if they can persuade him to take the job, he would be a top manager to have,” said Parlour.
 
 “He knows his football, he knows the Premier League, he knows the English players.
 
 “It would be a great coup for the FA if they can get someone like Wenger but I just think the pull of club football is too strong for him."
