Car ‘ploughs into police van’ in central Paris


 
A HUGE operation is under way in the Champs-Elysees shopping district of Paris after a car reportedly ploughed into a police van.
 
Heavily armed police have swept the district in the French capital today.
 
And witnesses claim to have seen a car catch fire.
 
 Officers have cordoned off a huge area close to the presidential Elysee palace and have warned people to avoid the area.
 
 Paris officials later confirmed that a suspected attacker was "downed" after driving his car into the van.
 
 It is understood that there are were no casualties, although the suspect was armed.
 
 The unnamed driver was knocked unconscious and is seriously injured, French media report.

 Last November, ISIS claimed responsibility for killing 129 people across the French capital.
