‘Diana got FREEDOM in the end’ Harrods shrine SWAMPED with fans making SHOCK comments

LUXURY department store Harrods is being swamped by thousands of gushing fans flocking to its “tacky” Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed statue.

And Daily Star Online can reveal they are leaving shocking comments in a “book of condolences” – including one that says Diana "got the freedom in the end".

Huge crowds of mourners are swarming the bronze statue, called “Innocent Victims”, every day, taking selfies and throwing coins into a water feature.

It was installed by Dodi’s Egyptian tycoon dad Mohamad in 2005, at the time he owned the famous plush Knightsbridge store in London.

Yet the move, eight years after Diana and Dodi died in a horror car crash in Paris, cut all ties the store had with the Royal Family.

Mohamed had long claimed his son and Diana were murdered, and vented his anger by setting fire to Harrods’ Royal Warrant.

But since Al Farad sold Harrods to the Qatari Royal Family in 2010, the new owners have been reportedly looking to repair those ties so they can regain the Royal Warrant.

So just last month Harrods announced the statue will soon be removed and given back to the Al Fayad family.

But this hasn’t stopped thousands of people from swarming Harrods since – not for afternoon tea or shopping – but to see the 9.5ft-tall statue that depicts Diana and Dodi dancing beneath a dove.

A book of condolences next to the sculpture, seen by Daily Star Online last week, is bursting with comments left in 2018 alone, including a jaw-dropping allegation that reads: “I think an Establishment made Diana die.”

Others made digs at the Royal Family, with one fan suggesting Diana finally got “freedom at the end” when she and Prince Charles – who had an affair with current wife Camilla – divorced and she met Dodi.

That fan wrote: “Diana, you didn’t deserve to die like that. But you got the freedom you deserved at the end.”

Other similar comments are “you died a happy ever after”, “hope you have finally found peace!” and “you are now in a better place”.

In an apparent dig at Camilla, another visitor penned “would have made an amazing Queen”.

Some gushing followers of Diana even visited the statue on Valentine’s Day, spoke of their broken hearts and believed she is still alive.

Those comments included “for us you are still alive, beautiful lady Di!”, “forever in our hearts on Valentine's Day” and “to the both of you, it broke my heart when you went, but my love will go on”.

One comment begged Harrods not to remove the statue: “Please don’t take the statue away, it means a lot to me.”

Despite planning to remove the memorial, Harrods has not yet revealed a date for when it plans to take it down.

A Harrods spokeswoman told Daily Star Online: “Harrods takes its role as the custodian of a historic Grade II* listed building extremely seriously and, as with any change to the store, has undertaken due diligence.

“As such, no decisions on timings have been made at this point.”
