3rd INAS 2011 Global Games

Mission 1 ... Portugal
Ran from 24 September to 4 October in the beautiful region of Liguria - Italy, 3 s Global Games INAS, where Portugal will be present with a mission composed of 69 participants including 46 athletes spread over six sports - athletics, basketball, cycling, indoor soccer, indoor rowing and table tennis - that will try to make their mark on Italian soil.
1087 athletes will be present (739 male and 348 female) from 38 countries, an event that brings together the World Championships in eight sports: athletics, basketball, cycling, soccer, swimming, indoor rowing and table tennis. Some of these athletes will try to still achieve the qualification to attend the Paralympic Games London 2012, especially in terms of athletics and swimming where the evidence is sanctioned by the International Paralympic Committee.
For John Sparrow, Head of Mission of Portugal, the main objective is to improve the excellent results achieved in the last edition held in the Czech Republic, where we won 30 medals (14 Gold, 6 Silver, 10 Bronze), although we are fully aware that this outstanding performance is difficult to overcome since the Portuguese Mission had to be reduced due to lack of support and funding because of the economic crisis we are experiencing in our country and in Europe.
However, despite the difficulties, adding that athletes who are eager and willing to participate in the biggest international sports competition and intellectual disability that has been prepared and trained hard in order to achieve the goals we have set out and honorably represent our Country
We would also like to highlight the support that this mission was by the Sports Institute of Portugal, and HR Sportzone Group, without whom we would not have been present at this grand event for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
