ADEBAYOR DEMANDS £5M FOR SPURS MOVE

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR’S expected move to Tottenham was scuppered when the striker demanded Manchester City pass on the £5m fee straight to him.

The Togo star, who had a successful spell on loan at Spurs last season, will have to take a huge cut in his £175,000-a-week salary to make the deal permanent.

So his advisers came up with the proposal that City compensate him by letting him have the transfer fee.

City – who reportedly paid £105,000 towards his wages last season while he was at Spurs – had no interest in agreeing to a pay-off, having splashed out £25m on the 28-year-old from Arsenal two years ago.

It was confirmed two weeks ago City had accepted Spurs’ offer for a player who scored 17 league goals for them last season.

With the deal in limbo, Spurs are set to step up their interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.
