Arsene Wenger speaks out following Arsenal win over Newcastle

ARSENE WENGER says Arsenal deserved their 1-0 win over Newcastle at the Emirates.

Mesut Ozil got the only goal of the game with a stunning first-half volley.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles came close for Arsenal before the break, but Newcastle had chances in the second half for Jacob Murphy and Ayoze Perez.

Speaking after the game, Wenger said his side deserved the three points.

“Overall we deserved to win - we had plenty of chances,” he said.

“In the final 10 minutes we became edgy. Overall, I feel we dominated.

"It was physically difficult today after three games in six days.

"Ozil's goal was a gem. Good that he scores important goals. That was a great goal.

"The strange thing in our last games is that our displays have been good but we didn't win. That's why it's important to win today.

"I had an eye on Jack Wilshere. He takes advaatage from long preparation and good stamina.

"Ainsley Maitland-Niles could have had a goal. He was sharp."
