ENGLAND’S Euro 2012 plans were in chaos last night with the FA and stand-in boss Stuart Pearce at loggerheads over when the final squad for this summer will be named.

Pearce claimed that players will find out if they are on the plane to Poland and Ukraine on May 10, three days before the Premier League season finishes.

But the FA immediately disagreed, insisting no date would be put in place to finalise the squad until they appointed a new manager.

Harry Redknapp remains the favourite to land the job, and Starsport understands the appointment will be made BEFORE the end of the season.

Pearce was adamant May 10 was the big day, so if Redknapp gets the job he could have just days to select his final 23 for the Euros – and will have to do it three days before he picks his final Tottenham team.

Spurs end their season on May 13 at home to Fulham and may need to win to secure a Champions League spot.

Pearce said: “The squad will be picked on May 10. I’ve no idea whether I’ll be selecting it or not.”

England’s final squad for Euro 2012 does not need to be with UEFA until May 29, but the FA want a list of 23 names before that.

FA officials believe they will have appointed a new boss before the end of the season, so an approach is imminent.

It would be easier to secure West Brom boss Roy Hodgson, whose contract is up in the summer.

Pearce will lead Team GB at the Olympics in July, and was speaking at the draw for the tournament, where his side will face Uruguay, Senegal and the UAE in the group stage. He has always said he is available if needed for the Euros.

England face have friendlies against Norway in Oslo on May 26 and Belgium on June 2 at Wembley.
