ENGLAND VIRUS FEAR

ROY HODGSON fears illness could wreck England’s World Cup chances against Ukraine tonight.

Theo Walcott and Daniel Sturridge have both been hit with a stomach virus, sparking worries it will spread through the entire squad.

Arsenal star Walcott has been forced to pull out of tonight’s Wembley clash, while Chelsea forward Sturridge was quarantined yesterday and remains a major doubt.

England boss Hodgson yesterday handed shock call-ups to rookie trio Raheem Sterling, 17, of Liverpool, Adam Lallana, 24, of Southampton, and Tottenham’s Jake Livermore, 22, as a precaution.

All three reported to the team hotel near Watford last night. “Theo has picked up some sort of virus or bug because he was quite violently ill,” said Hodgson yesterday.

“He trained fully yesterday and was as fit as a fiddle, then he was violently sick this morning and had to be sent home.

“Daniel trained yesterday with these stomach cramps and complained of them, but he still got through training.

“But today he woke up with the same stomach cramps,

although slightly better, and the doctor advised us to keep him out of training and to see how things are when he wakes up tomorrow.

“We hope it is not something that is going to spread.

“That is one of the reasons we were quite anxious to get Theo back home as soon as possible and why we’ve kept Daniel away from the other players, both last night and today.”
