FABIO CAPELLO IN LIVERPOOL TALKS

FABIO CAPELLO has spoken to Liverpool about replacing sacked boss Kenny Dalglish at Anfield, it has been reported.

It was thought that the vacant position at Chelsea was the Italian's favoured role, as he wanted to stay in London.

But now it appears that the former England boss would be willing to move to Merseyside, after resigning from the national team job earlier this year.

And the 65-year-old is even believed to be ready to fly to Boston to hold further talks with Liverpool's American owners.

Despite beginning the recruitment process with a host of candidates to choose from, principal owner John W. Henry has seen that number dwindle in recent days.

Both Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers and Ajax manager Frank De Boer have declined offers, whilst the pursuit of Barcelona's Pep Guardiola is likely to prove futile.

Having already interviewed Wigan's Roberto Martinez for the post, Reds chiefs now appear to be left with a straight choice between the Spaniard and Capello.

But it is unclear whether Liverpool would be willing to match the former Real Madrid boss's salary demands.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Andre Villa-Boas has cooled his enthusiasm for the post in recent days, despite initially expressing an interest.
