GIVE US A CLUE SAYS BOLTON BOSS OWEN COYLE
OWEN COYLE admits he doesn't have a clue who to pick for Bolton's relegation scrap with Blackburn.
Boss Coyle has seen his plans for tomorrow turned upside down since Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch from a cardiac arrest at Tottenham last Saturday.
The doctors who saved his life revealed that Muamba had effectively been ‘dead’ for 78 minutes and needed 15 shocks to to resuscitate him. Bolton’s players have spent the week coming to terms with the harrowing scenes – and Muamba’s recovery.
They returned to training on Wednesday, when they decided the game with Rovers should go ahead, with Muamba’s blessing.
But Coyle knows some of his squad still might not be in the right frame of mind. And he admits he has no idea how to focus on football again.
“I said to them that if anybody felt it had been too traumatic or they needed somebody to speak to, they only had to let me know and I would listen,” he said.
“If somebody is not ready, they won’t play. Simple as that. I would never ask any of my players to play if they are not ready.
“We might go out training and one or two will say, ‘Gaffer, I’m this or that’. That’s something we’ll deal with.
“We’ll play the game, pick the best team we think is available, but, while we’re playing, there’s no doubt everybody’s thoughts will be with Fabrice.
“Is it difficult? Yes, but it pales into insignificance compared to the fight Fabrice has had.”
The Trotters are planning their own tribute to Muamba before kick-off and Coyle admits he has been overwhelmed by messages of support.
He said: “Kenny Dalglish actually rang me while I was in the police car going at 120mph driving to the hospital after the game. Text messages, voicemails – it has been incredible.”
