Graham Rowntree adamant England are in perfect shape for World Cup glory as Fiji await

GRAHAM ROWNTREE insists England are in the best shape possible to land World Cup glory.

Stuart Lancaster's men kick-off the tournament against Fiji at Twickenham tomorrow night.

The hosts are second favourites behind New Zealand to go on and lift the Webb Ellis Trophy for the second time in history.

Lancaster's squad have spent six months preparing for the tournament and his assistant coach Rowntree admits his stars cannot wait to get going.

He said: "We are peaking now - for opening night.

"The lads are in the shape of their lives.

"It's on home turf. There will be 50 million people watching, including family and friends and we can feel the atmosphere building.

"We've been ready for a couple of weeks now. It's been a long preparation and tough training camp.

"The lads are fitter than they've ever been. I'm excited for them because this is the time of their lives.

"It's what they've prepared for for a long time so we are expecting big things."

England will be forced to deal with the hype and an opening ceremony at rugby's HQ as part of the preparation before kick-off, but Rowntree added:

"We have spoken about that at length. We have changed our warm-up slightly but we are looking forward to it - it's all part of what will be a fantastic tournament."
