Liverpool 0 Plymouth 0: Jurgen Klopp pays price for FA Cup changes as Argyle secure replay
JURGEN KLOPP was left to rue making 10 changes to his Liverpool team as League Two side Plymouth secured a shock replay.
Reds boss Klopp named the youngest starting XI in the club's history with Emre Can the only survivor from the 2-2 draw at Sunderland.
Liverpool enjoyed plenty of the ball but failed to break down Plymouth's stubborn defence as their youngsters struggled with Sheyi Ojo failing to convert their best opportunity early on.
Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino were brought off the bench in the desperate search for a winner but Derek Adams' side earned themselves a second crack at the Premier League giants.
Klopp included talented teens Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo in his starting XI with veteran Lucas captaining the side.
The Reds boss defended his changes ahead of kick-off but would have grown concerned by their failure to create many clear-cut chances in the first half.
Ejaria had an early go at goal while Ojo failed to connect with Lucas' cross in the opening five minutes but their pedestrian play was comfortable for Plymouth to deal with.
Ojo wasted a header from six yards but Liverpool had little to show for their 80 per cent possession in the first half.
Argyle star Graham Carey forced Loris Karius into action after the break before Sturridge was thrown on.
The England international went close before Craig Tanner gave the home defence a scare with a dancing run down the wing.
Argyle boss Adams was forced into a change as defender Gary Miller suffered a nasty leg injury while Lallana and Firmino were thrust into the action.
But Klopp's senior stars failed to do the business as Plymouth comfortably saw out the final 20 minutes.
Liverpool now have an increasing fixture list and will travel to Home Park in a week-and-a-half for the replay.
