Man City boss Pep Guardiola hit with FA fine for wearing yellow ribbon

PEP GUARDIOLA has been hit with a £20,000 fine from the FA for wearing his yellow ribbon.

The Manchester City boss has been hit in the pocket and warned as to his future conduct after admitting a charge of breaching rules regarding kit and advertising.

Guardiola's decision to wear the ribbon in support of jailed politicians in Catalonia was regarded as him making a political statement.

Guardiola accepted the charge and a three man panel from the FA met to decide his punishment.

But he has refused to apologise, although a source said the Spaniard 'recognises the rules of the country in which he works and will abide by them'.

Etihad bosses believe the FA tied themselves in knots with the charge because it contradicts the stance taken towards players wearing poppies.

Guardiola is still allowed to wear the ribbon before and after games and can even wear it on the touchline during Champions League matches, which he intends to do.

When asked about the ribbon he said: "If one day in prison was already too much, look how many days they've been there now. Like everybody knows, hopefully sooner or later I can stop wearing it (the ribbon)."

Guardiola's decision not to challenge the charge came just 24 hours before FA chief executive Martin Glenn caused outrage with his comments comparing the 'Star of David' with symbols such as the Nazi swastika.

Glenn's latest gaffe left him embarrassed and with no choice but to issue a grovelling apology.
