Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho reveals what Champions League means to Old Trafford fans

MANCHESTER United boss Jose Mourinho admits Old Trafford has missed the excitement of Champions League knockout ties.

United host Sevilla tonight in the second leg of their last 16 showdown to see who will progress to the quarter finals.

The tie is poised on a knife edge at 0-0 from the opening game in southern Spain a fortnight ago.

United have not reached the last eight of European football's premier competition since 2014.

The fallen giants won the Europa League last season to book a place back in the Champions League, but Mourinho admits this is not the same.

Mourinho said: "For sure this stadium has missed knockout football in the Champions League.

"I know we had a long and successful in last season's Europa League, but that is not the same.

"It is four years since we had a knockout tie here in this competition, so I believe Old Trafford has been missing a big European night.

"Tonight we have the kind of night we want to have - and if we win, then we go through to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

"That is very important for a club like ours."
