Man Utd star Nemanja Matic makes stunning claim after FA Cup win over Brighton

NEMANJA MATIC reckons nothing can save Manchester United’s season from being a failure.

United bounced back from their crushing Champions League exit to Sevilla to breeze past Brighton and book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Matic set up the first goal for Romelu Lukaku before scoring the second himself as the Serbian star put on a midfield masterclass in the snow.

A trip to Wembley would be something to cherish for most clubs, but not at United where according to Matic, even winning the cup itself is just not good enough.

“I think no,” he said.

“I always want to win more and more, but in the Premier League you have six or seven teams who want to win the league.

“It is not possible to always win, but if we win the FA Cup it is good, but not perfect.

“You have four competitions in the season and if you win one, for me it is not enough.

“In the Premier League, when you are in the first four this is not perfect, but is good to play for the Champions League next season. If you win the FA Cup - I cannot say it is a successful season.”

Jose Mourinho ripped into his players afterwards, accusing them of being scared to play and lacking personality.

Mourinho left superstar duo Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez to shelter from the blizzard on the bench, just 48-hours after Starsport exclusively revealed he believes the pair are ‘killing’ his side.

To make matters worse Mourinho hauled off Luke Shaw at half time and lambasted him afterwards, before admitting he couldn’t care less if he risks alienating some of his stars by criticising them in public.

The cold snap that engulfed Old Trafford on Saturday night was bad enough, but the real storm appears to be brewing inside Mourinho’s dressing room.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton insists Mourinho knows how to handle the growing pressure and will continue to be a winner.

Hughton said: “I don’t think you’ll ever get anybody saying anything detrimental about Jose. He’s an outstanding manager.

“He’s a manger that’s managing a massive club and there are always different things that come with that, compared to managing Brighton.

“At the moment, they’re a team that’s second in the division and the only reason they are second is because Manchester City have had an outstanding season.

“This is a club that will continue to win things. I don’t see that changing. It’s Manchester United. Jose has managed at big, big clubs. At all of those big clubs pressure comes with the territory.

“He has a wonderful way of dealing with that pressure. When you manage these type of clubs you’ve got to be used to it.”
