MANCHESTER UNITED IN £20M SHINJI KAGAWA SWOOP

SHINJI KAGAWA is heading to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £20m.

United hope to announce the move in the next 48 hours after the Borussia Dortmund midfielder agreed to wages of £85,000 per week.


Kagawa’s arrival helps soften the blow of losing out to Chelsea for £36m midfielder Eden Hazard, who snubbed both Manchester clubs.


United will pay an initial £15m for the 23-year-old Japan international, who was signed by the German champions for just £300,000 in 2010.


The fee could rise to £20m depending on appearances and honours.


Sir Alex Ferguson paved the way for his latest transfer swoop earlier this month when he met the 30-times capped player to discuss the move. The finishing touches have still to


be put to the deal, but it is expected to be completed by Friday.


After winning a domestic double this season with Dortmund, Kobe-born Kagawa goes with the blessing of his team-mates.


Defender Mats Hummels said: “He’s a world-class player and we wish him all the best.”


United have made savings on their wage bill after releasing £90,000-a-week striker Michael Owen.


They will also listen to offers for another big earner, Dimitar Berbatov.


The £100,000-a-week striker is set to move to Paris St Germain.


The Bulgarian, who joined for a club record £30m in 2008, admitted he was on his way out.


But he added: “It’s not true to say that at this stage I’m looking for a house in France. When I get to know where I’ll play, the fans will be informed, but at this point there’s nothing concrete.”


United yesterday claimed that almost 10 per cent of the world’s population – around 659 million – supported the Old Trafford club.
