Manchester United WILL finish top four this season, top pundit claims


 
DANNY Murphy is convinced that Manchester United will qualify for the Champions League this season by finishing fourth in the league.
 
The former Liverpool midfielder made the declaration on talkSPORT this morning, after the Red Devils overcame a resolute Crystal Palace 2-1 in south London last night.
 
 “Burnley at home, Stoke at home, Arsenal at home,” Murphy said.
 
 “All game United should have won comfortably – six points. Is their season that bad?
 
 “OK they haven’t played the free-flowing old school United way but they are progressing nicely.
 
 “I really fancy them to be top four by the end of the season, I really do.
 
 “It’s not just how they’re playing, it’s the strength in depth.”
 
 Victory over Palace meant United are now unbeaten in their last nine games – since suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce in the Europa League on November 3.
 
 It required a late goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to secure all three points at Selhurst Park, poking home a Paul Pogba assist in the 88th minute.
 
 After the game, boss Mourinho said: “[The win] was very difficult but it was very deserved.
 
 “In the first half we were in control, in the second half they had a little reaction and they got the bonus from that reaction with a good goal.
 
 “After we went through the best period of the game which was 20 minutes of being almost unstoppable.
 
 “I’m pleased for the players because they won against a good opponent in an always difficult stadium.”
 
 The result leaves United in sixth place, three points adrift of Tottenham and six behind arch-rivals Man City in fourth place.
