MARK CAVENDISH: FROM BRAD TO WORSE

GREAT BRITAIN cyclist Mark Cavendish was a gold medal flop yesterday – in stark contrast to team-mate Bradley Wiggins’s historic Tour de France triumph last Sunday.

Cav was a hot favourite to win the Olympic road race but he failed miserably – finishing 29th and almost a minute behind Kazakhstan’s winner Alexandr Vinokurov.


A devastated Cavendish, who blew out in Beijing 2008, becoming the only cyclist NOT to return home with a medal after finishing ninth in the Madison with Wiggins, had a pop at rival teams.


He said: “It seems like most teams are happy not to win as long as we don’t win.


“It’s bitterly disappointing. No one wants to help us.”
