MILLWALL FACE BOTTLE RAP

MILLWALL face an FA probe after their FA Cup fourth round tie with Aston Villa was held up for five minutes at the Den last night when home fans threw bottles of water at linesman Mark Scholes.

Trouble started after referee Neil Swarbrick gave a straight-forward 52nd minute free-kick to Villa but other Millwall fans launched a volley of abuse at the bottle throwers.

Just four days after losing in the Capital One Cup semi-finals to League Two Bradford, Villa must have thought they had turned the corner when a 22nd minute scuffed shot from Darren Bent crept in.

But six minutes later Danny Shittu rose above the defence to equalise for the Championship side before John Marquis sent Villa’s season crashing to a new low when he nodded in an 89th-minute winner.
