Portugal climbs the podium five times in the 2011 IPC World Athletics 
Goncalves has won the World Champion in the 400 meters race, class T12, with a time of 49.83 seconds, finishing just two hundredths of his personal record. At only 23 years old athlete who had been runner-up in Beijing Paralympics 2008, confirms the excellent run of form and good work that has developed with coach Nuno Alpiarça.
The national 4x100m relay in classes T11-T13 - Athletes with visual impairments, this Championship won the silver medal with a time of 44.44 s. The team consists of lusa Jose Alves Firmino Baptista, Luís Gonçalves Filly and Gabriel, kept the tradition of achieving podium places in Portugal.
Goncalves returned to Lane Stadium Queen Elizabeth II in Christchurch, New Zealand and returned to the podium once again, having already won the 400 meters, this time to receive the silver medal of the two. Place in the final 200 meters for athletes with low vision. Despite the rain and wind, Goncalves again had an excellent performance, completing the distance in 22.57 seconds.
Lenine Cunha has won the vice-world champion in the long jump, class T20 - athletes with intellectual disabilities, who won the Silver Medal. Ines Fernandez won the bronze medal in the Shot Put competition, class T20 - athletes with intellectual disabilities. Dropping the weight to 11.45m, the 22-year natural and Valencia, fulfilled the dream of placing his name on the list of Portuguese athletes medal at World Championships promoted by the International Paralympic Committee.
Portugal participated in this championship with a delegation of 37 members, of which 18 are athletes. The Paralympic Committee of Portugal assumed responsibility for coordinating the delegation that has as main objective the training of athletes for the London 2012 Olympics and the maintenance of the athletes who are currently part of the Project Preparation London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The IPC World Athletics Championships 2011 held between 21 and 30 January in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, and with the participation of 73 countries and 1,030 athletes.
According to Carlos Lopez, head of delegation of Portugal in the International Paralympic Committee World Championships in Athletics 2011 CPI this event served to "provide athletes the opportunity to participate, to compete and represent our country in the most important international event of the athletics adapted before Paralympic Games is one of the goals achieved. " Carlos Lopes stressed that participation was held "in an atmosphere of great camaraderie and mutual support between the elements of the delegation, this world event allowed athletes to achieve sporting tags and ratings that allow them to enter or remain in the Project Preparation London 2012 Paralympic Games."
The selection of Paralympic athletics is coming tomorrow to Lisbon with five medals, one gold, three silver and one bronze. The victories in the 2011 IPC World Athletics express the excellence of athletes. Except the medal won by courier, the rest were achieved by young hopefuls.
