PSV confirm Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Dutch star Georginio Wijnaldum GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM has left a pre-season training camp to hold transfer talks with Newcastle, PSV have confirmed.
Steve McClaren is desperate to make the Dutch international midfielder his first summer signing and the Magpies are nearing a £14m deal.
PSV tweeted: "Georginio Wijnaldum has left the players' hotel in France.
"PSV nearing an agreement with Newcastle United and Wijnaldum has given permission to complete his personal negotiations and undergo an inspection."
McClaren confirmed yesterday that Newcastle are plotting an ambitious summer transfer window.
The former England boss said: "We are working very hard behind the scenes.
"When you go to £10m-plus they are Europa League and Champions League players at top clubs. It is more difficult to recognise their availability and get things done.
"The process is going and, believe you me, there is a massive willingness from the club to spend, but not spend foolishly."
