ROBERTO MANCINI AND ARSENE WENGER SLAM DOUBLE STANDARDS

SIR ALEX FERGUSON’S stunned Premier League rivals rounded on the FA after the Manchester United boss’s incredible ref bust-up let-off.

Fergie escaped punishment for his touchline clash with Mike Dean during United’s 4-3 win over Newcastle.

And Manchester City reacted with fury after boss Roberto Mancini was told to explain tongue-in-cheek comments after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland while bitter rival Fergie was in the clear.

And Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said Ferguson deserved to be punished and hinted there is one rule for the Old Trafford chief and another for everyone else.

Wenger said: “If he didn’t behave like he should have done, yes of course (he should have been punished). He would be the first to say that. We go sometimes overboard on the touchline and when we do it we have to be punished, it is as simple as that.

“If it is me or Ferguson or anybody else in the world, the rules are the rules. It is not rules for one person and the rules for another person, it is the same for everybody.”

Mancini slammed referee Kevin Friend after City’s Boxing Day loss and joked the official “ate too much for Christmas”.

He added: “He and the linesman, I think, after Christmas, it can happen to have a bad performance like today.”

QPR boss Harry Redknapp was also told to explain his comments by the FA after blasting the officials following his side’s 2-1 defeat to West Brom.

Redknapp labelled referee Chris Foy’s decision to allow West Brom’s second goal to stand, despite a foul on keeper Rob Green, and not to award Rangers a penalty for a Liam Ridgwell handball “scandalous”.

Redknapp maintained he did nothing wrong, saying: “I got frustrated the other day.

“I didn’t chase the referee onto the pitch, I waited and went into his room half an hour after the game just to ask how he came to those decisions.”
