Sam Allardyce set for England sack after being summoned to Wembley

SAM ALLARDYCE is on the brink of being sacked as England manager.

The 61-year-old was summoned to a meeting at Wembley to explain his conduct after being caught up in a newspaper sting.

FA chairman Greg Clarke and CEO Martin Glenn with decide the future of Allardyce after first grilling him on allegations arising from a Daily Telegraph investigation.

Allardyce is alleged to have used his position as England boss to negotiate a £400,000 deal with bogus businessman purporting to be from the Far East.

At the same time, he was caught offering advice on how to circumvent rules on transfers.

He was only appointed as England manager in July and has had one game in charge – this month’s victory over Slovakia.

But he now fears losing his dream job almost before it has begun.

Glenn was part of the three-man committee which recommended Allardyce should succeed Roy Hodgson, but Clarke has only recently been appointed to the role of chairman.

Clarke has no ties to Allardyce and is understood to be concerned and disturbed by the nature of the allegations which were caught on camera during the newspaper sting.

Allardyce has given the FA an excuse to terminate his two-year contract and left his home in Bolton this morning to drive to the national stadium where he was due to undergo a grilling.

It is an embarrassing episode for the integrity of the FA and if Clarke feels that has been totally compromised then the dream job Allardyce actively pursued for a decade will have gone inside two months.

No decision has been taken as yet with Clarke and Glenn waiting to formally speak to Allardyce face to face, but the outlook appears bleak.

Allardyce believes his comments were ill-advised but not corrupt and he is expected to apologise to Hodgson, who he mocked by calling “Woy.”

England are due play Malta in a World Cup qualifier on October 8 followed by Slovenia three days later.
