FURIOUS Samir Nasri was given his marching orders for headbutting Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong after a late tackle sent him flying through the air.

But despite playing for the whole of the second half with ten men, Roberto Mancini’s champions managed to hang on to record a 4-3 win, leaving them seven points adrift of Premier League rivals Manchester United, who beat West Brom 2-0.

Afterwards Mancini sprang to the defence of Nasri. It was the France international’s first sending-off in the top flight and his boss said: “I don’t understand why it was only Nasri that was sent off.

“Either you send off both players or you send off none. We will definitely be appealing against it.”
