SUNDERLAND WARNED OFF £9M BID FOR WOLFSBURG ACE PATRICK HELMES

MARTIN O’NEILL has been told not to waste his time chasing Patrick Helmes.

Sunderland boss O’Neill leads the chase for the £9m-rated Wolfsburg striker.

West Brom and Spanish side Valencia are also in the hunt for the 28-year-old.

O’Neill has money to spend from the £6m sale of record signing Asamoah Gyan.

But Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath insists German international Helmes is going nowhere.

Wolfsburg paid £6.5m for the hitman 18 months ago.

Magath said: “Selling Patrick is out of the question. We’ve received enquiries about him, but turned them all down.”
